HEALTH & SAFETY

One of CUASA’s responsibilities is the promotion of health and safety in the workplace. CUASA works with its representatives on the Joint Health and Safety Committee to ensure that our members can do their work in a safe and health environment.

The Joint Health and Safety Committee is made up of representatives from management and from all the employee groups on campus. The Committee is mandated by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and is the main body responsible for health and safety in the workplace.

Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety act provides several important rights to workers. These
include:

• The right to participate in the process of identifying and resolving concerns.
• The right to know about any hazards to which they may be exposed.
• The right to refuse work that they believe may be dangerous.

More information on these rights can be found on the Ministry of Labour’s Health and Safety website. You can also consult the electronic version of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. We strongly encourage our members to become more familiar with health and safety regulations and to stay safe at work.

If you have any concerns about a health and safety issue, you can contact CUASA or one of the Joint Health and Safety Committee representatives.
