Afternoon Update – March 19
This afternoon, CUASA Council met online using GoToMeeting to discuss the ongoing COVID-19 situation and how the work of the Association will proceed.
Following approval this morning from the Steering Committee, notice was given to Council today that CUASA will be looking to approve the implementation of an emergency Bylaw at the next Council meeting on Thursday, April 16. This is in line with Article IV of the CUASA Constitution that requires at least two weeks’ notice of a proposal to amend the bylaws.
Titled Bylaw 20(A) – Emergency Electronic Voting for General Membership Meetings (COVID19 Crisis), this Bylaw, if ratified, will allow CUASA operations to continue electronically while the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
This is essential because of the April General Meeting, currently scheduled for Tuesday, April 28, where CUASA is required to pass its annual budget. Currently, the CUASA Constitution does not allow for membership meetings to be conducted electronically.
We are in unprecedented times, but the work of the Association must continue. Council also passed a motion today to allow this work to be carried out electronically in the interim until Bylaw 20(A) can be adopted. You can read today’s motion and the proposed Bylaw 20(A) here.
Per today’s motion, this will serve as notice to the membership that this year’s April General Meeting will be held electronically on April 28, 2020 from 1:00-3:00pm. Further details on the agenda and method of holding the meeting will be made available at a later date.
