Weekly Update – April 24

April 28 – National Day of Mourning

We encourage you to join the virtual ceremony for this year’s National Day of Mourning for Workers Killed or Injured on the Job, hosted by the Ottawa and District Labour Council.

The ceremony will take place on April 28 at 12:30 p.m. on Zoom, which you can access here.

No pre-registration is required.

JCAA

CUASA met with the Employer on April 17 at the Joint Committee for the Administration of the Agreement (JCAA). At that meeting, CUASA inquired as to whether Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) would be provided to employees who go to campus to access their office. The Employer has responded, stating that the answer is no. Further, the Employer stated that there is a limited supply of PPE available for accessing animal care facilities due to supply chain challenges, but that PPE is already required as part of the animal care facility access protocols.

We also asked Carleton to do public/campus wide consultations on all back to work modules. We are insisting that this discussion not just be left to a few committee members.

Building Access Protocols

We would like to bring to your attention the University’s New Building Access Protocols, which took effect on March 30. You can view the protocols here.

Reminder for Steering Nominations

The nominations period is open for executive positions on the CUASA Steering committee. Information on the nominations process, and a list of open positions, can be found on our How to Volunteer page. Nominations are open until Monday, April 27.

If you are interested in any of the open positions, we strongly encourage you to consider running. CUASA Council has decided that a teaching release will be made available to anyone who takes a position on Steering.* The work of the Association continues, despite the current environment we find ourselves in. Remember that our Association is only as strong as its membership, so we count on the time and commitment of our members to achieve our goals.

Today is the last day to complete the Transition to Teaching Online: Survey for Faculty and Instructors. We strongly encourage you to complete this survey to inform the Employer of your experience of the transition to online teaching. You can complete the survey here.
