Weekly Update – July 24

New Faculty Orientation

Carleton Teaching and Learning Services is holding the 2020 New Faculty Orientation entirely online. The online orientation consists of two parts, including Q&A sessions to ask questions of representatives from TLS and other departments. New faculty members who will be teaching online or via distance this upcoming academic year are encouraged to attend. The next Q&A session is on Tuesday, August 11 from 2:00-4:00pm. You can learn more and register here. We highly recommend that everyone interested and new to online teaching, including new faculty, attend this workshop if they can. We have heard they are very helpful and well worth attending to assist in your preparations for the fall term.

EDC Workshops for Faculty

A reminder that faculty not participating in the New Faculty Orientation have the ability to participate in TLS’s online pedagogical and educational technology workshops. You can find more information on TLS’s Transitioning to Online Teaching page here, and a list of upcoming workshops here.

CAUT welcomes federal “restart” plan for recovery, but education left out

CAUT says the recent federal announcement of $19 billion for provinces and territories for a “safe economic restart” is a welcome beginning. The priority areas identified in the agreement, such as paid sick leave, child care and long-term care, are insufficiently funded, and it leaves other vital public services out all together.
