The Carleton University Academic Staff Association is the union representing over 850 faculty, instructors and

librarians at Carleton University. Originally founded in 1952 and certified in 1975, the Association is the oldest

union for academic staff in Ontario.

Qualifications
The education, skills, knowledge and experience required of the Mobilization Assistant include:
• A post-secondary degree or diploma and experience in labour relations;
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal); and,
• Strong information technology skills.

The position is unionized with Unifor Local 567.

Job
The mobilization assistant’s main functions are to assist in communicating with members about pending and current bargaining negotiations between CUASA and the employer.
Reporting lines: reports to and works under the general direction of the President and/or Chief Negotiator. Will support the Communications Administrative Assistant when asked.

The duties and responsibilities of the Mobilization Assistant include:
1. May be requested to attend meetings of Campus United and the Ottawa and District Labour Council.
2. Will develop and coordinate events, campaigns, and other activities designed to increase member involvement in the association and to increase non-member awareness of association issues, in the time periods leading up to and during bargaining. The assistant will conduct these duties in consultation with relevant committee chairs and in consultation with the Communications Assistant.
3. As directed by the President and/or Chief Negotiator, in consultation with the Communications Assistant, preparing and delivering information presentations to the CUASA membership regarding bargaining. Continued communication with units on bargaining when requested by the President or Chief Negotiator.
a. This will include meeting with the academic units.
4. Familiarity with social media, to support the Communications Assistant and others in maintaining constant social media communications in the periods before and during bargaining.
5. Perform other tasks requested by the President and/or Chief Negotiator.

Pay rate: $28 per hour.
