We are pleased to announce that Carleton University and the Carleton University Academic Staff Association (CUASA), representing more than 970 professors, instructors and librarians, have reached a tentative collective agreement on July 5, 2021.

Details of the settlement will be released after a ratification vote by members of the bargaining unit and the university’s Board of Governors.

Information Sessions

The next steps in the process will be for CUASA to begin preparing for the ratification vote. There will be a series of information sessions over the coming weeks for members to receive details of the tentative agreement and to ask any questions you may have for the Negotiating Team. Here are the times and dates of those sessions (you can also find them on our website calendar):

  •  Wednesday, July 21, 2021, from 1:00-3:00pm
  • Thursday, July 29, from 10:00am-12:00pm
  • Tuesday, August 3, from 1:00-3:00pm

Zoom details for these sessions will be sent to members ahead of each date.

Ratification E-Vote

Under the terms of the CUASA Constitution, ratification votes are typically held in-person using a ballot box. However, given the ongoing pandemic restrictions, an in-person vote is not possible at this time.

In our Weekly Update on June 25, notice was given that a vote will be held on a series of proposed amendments to the CUASA Constitution which will allow for an electronic ratification vote. A document containing information on the proposed amendments can be found here.

We will be holding two information sessions on the constitutional amendments (you can also find these dates on our website calendar):

  • Tuesday, July 13, from 10:00am-12:00pm
  • Thursday, July 15, from 1:00-3:00pm

Zoom details for these sessions will be sent to members ahead of each date.

The vote on the constitutional amendments will be administered electronically from Monday, July 26, 2021, at 12:00pm to Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at 12:00pm. The exact date of the ratification vote will be determined once the provisions for an e-vote have been authorized.
