Weekly Update – July 9, 2021

SECOND NOTICE: Proposed Constitutional Amendments

In accordance with Article XIV of the CUASA Constitution, notice is hereby given that a vote will be held on a series of proposed amendments to the Constitution. This is the second of two notices (the first was on June 25, 2021). As required by Article XIV, these amendments were passed by a majority of CUASA Council at a special meeting on June 24, 2021.

A document containing information on the proposed amendments can be found here.

We will be holding two information sessions on the proposed amendments on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 from 10:00am to 12:00pm and Thursday, July 15, from 1:00 to 3:00pm (Zoom details to follow).

The vote will be administered electronically from Monday, July 26, 2021 at 12:00pm to Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at 12:00pm.

Voting information will be distributed via email to all eligible voters prior to the opening of the polls.

Note: Only members who have joined the Association are eligible to vote. Membership in the bargaining unit is not the same as membership in the Association. If you haven’t filled out your membership card yet, or aren’t sure if you’ve filled one out before, you can do so using this electronic membership form: https://forms.gle/97SFD54XpVg3e86K8

The CUASA Office must have received your membership application by 9:00am on Monday, July 26, 2021 for you to be eligible to participate in the vote.

ICYMI: CUASA & CU Reach Tentative Agreement

In case you missed it, earlier this week we announced that CUASA and Carleton University had reached a tentative collective agreement.

The next steps in the process will be for CUASA to begin preparing for the ratification vote. There will be a series of information sessions over the coming weeks for members to receive details of the tentative agreement and to ask any questions you may have for the Negotiating Team. Here are the times and dates of those sessions (you can also find them on our website calendar):

  •  Wednesday, July 21, 2021, from 1:00-3:00pm
  • Thursday, July 29, from 10:00am-12:00pm
  • Tuesday, August 3, from 1:00-3:00pm

Zoom details for these sessions will be sent to members ahead of each date.

Under the terms of the CUASA Constitution, ratification votes are typically held in-person using a ballot box. However, given the ongoing pandemic restrictions, an in-person vote is not possible at this time. As mentioned above, we will be holding a vote to amend the Constitution later this month. The exact date of the ratification vote will be determined once the provisions for an e-vote have been authorized.
