CUASA Council Unanimously Approves Call for Strike Vote
We will be holding two information sessions on Wednesday, May 9 and Wednesday, May 16 from 10am-12pm in 360 Tory Building.
In an emergency meeting on Friday, May 4, CUASA Council unanimously approved to call a strike vote. This follows the Employer’s request for conciliation and attack on our pension language at the bargaining table, amongst other attacks.
The negotiating team has so far had twenty-six (26) bargaining sessions with the Employer. However, on May 2, 2018, the Employer notified CUASA it was filing for conciliation. This happened before we even had a chance to present all of our proposals at the bargaining table. A strike vote gives your union a defensive position against the Employer.
Obviously, we are hoping we can resolve outstanding issues and achieve a fair deal for our members without resorting to a strike or being forced into a lock-out. However, we need to prepare for all possible scenarios.
Strike Vote Polling Stations
Advance polling will take place on May 14 from 9am-5pm in the CUASA Boardroom, 2009 Dunton Tower.
Polls will be held May 16 and 17 from 9am-5pm at Minto CASE (outside the Bell Theatre), the University Centre atrium, and in Loeb Building (at the base of the ramp from Southam).
All bargaining unit members have the right to vote. Proxy voting is not allowed for this vote. Ballots will be available at the polling stations. All members will require photo ID.
Your Next Steps:
1) Read our Strike Vote FAQ here.
2) Fill out the personal contact information form here. Should CUASA no longer
find it possible to communicate with its members using the employer’s email system, it is necessary that we have alternate means of communication.
3) Sign-up to volunteer for the Strike Preparation Committee by emailing [email protected].
