Letter of Understanding: Unit Standards
CUASA wishes to inform its members that it recently signed a Letter of Understanding with Carleton University on unit standards.
Per Article 10.3(d) of the collective agreement, unit standards are to be reviewed every six years. However, with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic two years ago, a number of units have experienced delays in reviewing and approving their unit standards.
Under the terms of this LoU, any academic unit whose unit standards were due for review prior to January 1, 2021, will now have until December 31, 2022. For any academic unit whose unit standards expired in 2021, or will expire in 2022, the unit standards will be due by December 31, 2023.
Constitution and Bylaw Review 2022
As announced last week, a number of recommended amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws have been suggested and will now be placed before CUASA Council for consideration at its next meeting on March 24.
As required under Article XIV of the CUASA Constitution, any proposed amendments shall first be passed by a majority of Council members in order for it to be put to a membership referendum. Please continue to watch for future updates on the review process, including official notices for a referendum if Council determines one to be necessary.
Remember: Only CUASA members, meaning those who have signed their union cards, may participate in the internal administration of the union. Please make sure that you have completed your union card. If unsure of your membership status, please email us at [email protected] so that we can verify it.
