CUASA members are encouraged to apply for the following Achievement Awards won as a part of your Collective Agreement (Article 41)!

Carleton University Teaching Achievement Award

The Teaching Achievement Awards are intended to enhance the teaching of their recipients and the quality of instruction at Carleton. Five $15,000 awards are available. Recipients can choose to accept this award as a cash bonus, which will be taxed as salary income; a research grant, which operates as a regular research account; or as a combination of the two. Expenditures from a Teaching Achievement Award set up as a research grant may be used for the purposes of enhancing academic activities (teaching) in addition to any research-related activities. If the recipient chooses this award as a research grant, it will operate as a regular research account, and has no time limit on its usage. Deadline October 31 – More Information.

Professional Achievement Awards for Faculty – Teaching Stream

This award recognizes outstanding performance by an Teaching Stream Faculty in meeting the responsibilities as defined in the Collective Agreement, and in the individual job descriptions referred to by the Collective Agreement. Five $10,000 awards are available. Recipients can choose to accept this award as a lump sum payment, which will be taxed as salary income or added to their Professional Expense Reimbursement (PER). A PER is not taxed and must be claimed against original receipts. Salaries for teaching assistants/other supports may be covered under the PER. In accordance with the PER guidelines, funds can be used for books, equipment, professional association memberships and/or for travel-related expenses not covered by, or in excess of, other travel grants. Professional Achievement Award – Professional Librarians

The Peer Evaluation Committee will look for exceptional achievement in one or more of the following areas (above and beyond regular job duties):

  • Improving Library services and operations
  • Facilitating access to technology and scholarly resources
  • Leadership in communications, management, or public outreach and relations
  • Contributions to instruction, teaching and learning
  • Engagement in research and scholarly pursuits within or external to Carleton University
  • Participation in university committees and initiatives beyond the library

Recipients can choose to accept this award as a lump sum payment, which will be taxed as salary income or added to their Professional Expense Reimbursement (PER). A PER is not taxed and must be claimed against original receipts. Two $10,000 awards are available. All librarian members of the bargaining unit, with the exception of those in their first year of employment, are eligible for the annual awards.Deadline November 20th.   –  Application and Nomination Information

 

Carleton University Research Achievement Awards (RAA)

The Carleton University Research Achievement Awards are administered by the Office of the Vice-President (Research and International). Established in 1989, the purpose of these awards is to recognize outstanding research achievements. They are defined under the C.U.A.S.A. Collective Agreement (Article 41.2), and are available to faculty employees only.

  • Each year ten (10) awards valued at $15,000 are granted to Carleton researchers
  • The award is intended to enhance the research productivity of the recipients

Special Fund for EDI Research and Pedagogical Innovation

The CU-CUASA Special Fund for EDI Research and Pedagogical Innovation supports and enhances research excellence and pedagogical innovation across the institution undertaken by members of equity-seeking groups and/or on topics that hold equity, diversity and inclusion considerations as a dominant focus.

A fund of $375,000, for awards ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 each. Awards will continue to be awarded annually until the funds set aside for this purpose are depleted. Grants will be tenable for a period of 2 years. No extension will be granted, except in cases of extenuating circumstances or delays that affect research and pedagogical productivity such as parental, medical, or bereavement leaves.
