Motion in Defense of Palestinian Human Rights and International Law

Passed at CUASA’s Fall General Membership Meeting  –  Thursday October 31, 2024.

Be it resolved that CUASA:

  • Reviews the CUASA Strike Fund’s holdings and immediately divests from corporations directly enabling Israeli war crimes, breaches of international law, and human rights violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,
  • Directs CUASA’s representatives to the Carleton University Pension Committee to work towards divestment from corporations directly enabling Israeli war crimes, breaches of international law, and human rights violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,
  • Supports students’, faculty’s and staff’s rights to assemble and protest peacefully on campus without disruption, surveillance, reprisal or violence from police, security, or other quarters,

Be it further resolved that CUASA:

  • Calls on Carleton University to fully disclose the recipients of its financial investments through its endowed and non-endowed funds including the Carleton University Pension Fund,
  • Calls on Carleton University to divest from corporations directly enabling Israeli war crimes, breaches of international law, and human rights violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territories,

And, Be it Further Resolved that CUASA:

  • Calls for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip,
  • Calls on Carleton University to suspend its involvement with Israeli academic institutions that participate in or support the occupation of Palestinian territories.
