Bargaining News! Friday February 28th, 2025
CUASA and the Employer were back at the bargaining table February 25th and 26th. Several non-financial counters were exchanged on articles concerning confidentiality, term appointments, tenure and promotion, leaves, student experience questionnaire, and health and security. Some of these exchanges are down to the last hurdles, while others, notably the last three, still require substantial work. That said, there has been no progress on proposals on workload. We have again requested and are still waiting on financial counters and proposals from the Employer. The Negotiating Team returns to the bargaining table March 6th, 12th and 17th. Conciliation is planned for March 26th and 27th.
Thanks to all the members who took the time to fill out the Bargaining Priorities Survey. Your responses clearly put manageable workloads and keeping salaries in line with inflation and comparable universities as your top two priorities. Improvements to health care benefits and protection of CDIs also ranked very high. This week a Strike Vote by the membership returned a strong strike mandate for the Negotiating Team. A strike mandate is a clear message from members that the Employer cannot ignore. The Negotiating Team returns to bargaining bolstered in our mandate to bargain for a fair and equitable Collective Agreement.

The 2021-24 Collective Agreement remains in force until a new agreement is ratified by both parties, or until a lockout or strike. CUASA will continue to regularly inform its members on collective bargaining.
