In the article Students don’t know what’s best for their own learning the author looks into the logic used by many universities that students are the best judges of what helps them learn, which is measured through teaching evaluations. As many CUASA members know teaching evaluations have more to do with how much the student enjoyed the course, than how much they learned or how effective the teaching was. The article goes on to look at the consequences of judging universities by their teaching evaluations, and the consequences to learning and teaching that too much focus on a positive teaching evaluation can have.
