Morning Update – March 19
Dear CUASA members,
As your Chair of Grievance and Policy Administration, I am reaching out to you to let you know that we have been quite busy reviewing the reports from members and the information being made available to CUASA. The pandemic is affecting workplaces across the board.
I wish to inform you all that, as workers, you have rights and the pandemic situation does not displace your rights under the law or the collective agreement. The CUASA President and I have been in attendance for critical meetings with the University and we have been posing questions not just about how the University’s emergency plans are unfolding, but also about the impact to our members’ rights. The situation does call for a close review of the collective agreement to determine what still needs consultation and where we can find creative solutions to work through the issues arising from COVID-19, particularly when our members are actively experiencing new workplace challenges never considered before.
Your CUASA staff grievance services team has been very busy working through the issues with your CUASA Grievance Committee. Please watch for more updates and advisories from the Grievance Committee, and also please stay safe during these difficult times. If you have any questions or concerns about your rights, please email me at [email protected] or Christal Côté at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Pum van Veldhoven
Chair, Grievance Policy and Administration
