OLC Message: International Day to Eliminate Violence Against Women

November 25, 2022

A message from the Ottawa Labour Council Women’s Committee:

Today, November 25, 2022 marks the International Day to Eliminate Violence Against Women. It also is a start of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence that ends on December 10, 2022 Human Rights Day. In Canada, December 6, is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, mainly marked with vigils and events to commemorate the 14 lives lost at Montréal’s École Polytechnique in 1989, as well as lives lost to femicide and gender-based violence through the year.

The Canadian Labour Congress campaign title this year is: Never Again: End GBV at Work.

It is alarming that 7 in 10 workers have experienced violence and harassment at work – often at the hands of third parties such as customers, clients and patients.

Please sign the pledge and together we can end gender-based violence at work.  You can also check out the Canadian Labour Congress Harassment and Violence at Work Resource Centre.
