Statement from Dr. Root Gorelick
December 2015
I refuse to sign the “Statement of General Duties, Fiduciary Responsibilities and Conflict of Interest” (‘Statement’) that the executive committee of the Board of Governors approved on 24 August 2015. That ‘Statement’ flies in the face of academic freedom and is the antithesis of collegial and democratic governance. The ‘Statement’ is meant to stifle dissent, openness, accountability, and transparency, all of which should be fundamental at any public university. I refuse to allow such corporatization of Carleton to proceed unimpeded and promise to continue to inform the people who duly elected me to the Board of Governors about what transpires at open sessions.
