CUASA Statement on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Today marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. On this day, we recognize the vast diversity present in the disability community and remember that there is no one way disability shows up in our lives. Whether your disability is visible or invisible; chronic, intermittent, or new; physical, mental, or both – you are valid. On this day, we urge our members to be aware of their surroundings and attentive to the structures around us that are disabling. In a world built for abled people, be more attentive to ways that we consciously or unconsciously exclude disabled people and perpetuate ableism [1].
