Bargaining Update
Last Thursday and Friday your negotiating team met with the administration’s team. Despite our best efforts, the parties have not yet agreed to bargaining protocols and, as such, have not yet traded proposals or begun substantive discussions on the terms of a new contract. The sides will meet again on September 15th.
What are bargaining protocols?
Bargaining Protocols are a set of guidelines that both sides come to agreement on before exchanging proposals.
Why are they important?
Bargaining protocols facilitate the negotiation process by outlining expectations and format. Written protocols are not mandatory; however, experience has shown them to be useful.
Why haven’t they been agreed on yet?
CUASA had requested information on various pension accounts that has not yet been provided in full, and the Employer has so far not provided responses to CUASA’s satisfaction. We require this information in order to understand fully the University’s financial position.
As always, please feel free to contact your Council Representative(s), the Chief Negotiator, or the Member Services Officer with questions or for more information. Click here to see previous bargaining updates, and please be reminded that there will be a General Members’ Meeting on Wednesday, October 11th from 4-7pm, whose focus will be bargaining.
