Reminder about CDI deadlines
Members are reminded that deadlines for CDI assessments are approaching. You will likely have received notices to this effect already. Even though the current collective agreement expired on April 30, 2017, you should note that CDI procedures, deadlines, and disbursements will continue as normal.
Collective agreement status
As noted, the 2014-2017 collective agreement expired on April 30, 2017. CUASA has already served notice to bargain to Carleton University and our bargaining team will be actively engaged in negotiating our new collective agreement over the coming months. In the meantime, our 2014-2017 collective agreement will remain in force, including during any period of negotiation, until a new collective agreement is ratified by both parties, or until a strike or lock-out is declared.
A few additional things for members to note:
- Access to benefits in the 2014-2017 collective agreement remains unchanged.
- PER disbursements for 2017-18 may not be available until the conclusion of negotiations; however, any amounts that have been, or will be, carried over from previous years should be fully accessible to you.
- Salary floors are frozen at the amount at which they are set as of April 30, 2017 until the conclusion of negotiations.
- Entitlements contained within the new collective agreement currently being negotiated will be retroactive to May 1, 2017.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the CUASA office ([email protected]).
Seeking mentors for new faculty
We are still seeking volunteers for a new initiative, sponsored by the Equity Committee, to mentor new hires.
We are looking for members from across all faculties and the library who would be willing to help guide new members through the start of their careers. Note, members need not come from the same department or faculty as the person they are mentoring. Mentors may be connected with one, or perhaps two, new members. The extent, duration, and substance of the relationship would largely be up to you. We will provide a training session for mentors to make sure everyone has the necessary basics on directing folks to services and support, as well as giving a more detailed vision of what the mentor’s role will be.
Members are strongly encouraged to think about volunteering as a mentor. If you do volunteer, we will ask for a profile that will be posted to the CUASA website. New members will be given the opportunity to choose a mentor based on these profiles or may ask the Member Services Officer to assist in connecting them.
If you are interested in learning more about this initiative or becoming a mentor please contact Dawn Moore, CUASA’s Equity Officer at [email protected].
