What Does Your Union Do For You?
February 10, 2023
Our Know Your Rights segments highlight different aspects that impact your employment at Carleton University, including highlights from the Collective Agreement in small, easy to understand bits.
For our first section, we’d like to give a brief introduction to what CUASA can do for you. We play an active role in securing your rights as full-time Carleton academic staff members, and we strive to support our members in every walk of their career at Carleton. During the initial hiring process, the University has the duty to inform each candidate how to contact CUASA. During these early stages, CUASA can advise in salary and contract negotiations. As you progress in your career at Carleton, CUASA continues to offer support such as informal or formal dispute resolutions and grievances; workshops on confirmation, tenure and promotion; individualized advice on a variety of topics related to the collective agreement, and more. We also negotiate behind the scenes for better pay and benefits, more equitable and inclusive policies and procedures, more representative hiring practices, and a fair and balanced workload.
CUASA is run on a volunteer basis with the support of six full-time staff members. We depend on member participation and input. If you ever have ideas for how we can better serve our membership, please do not hesitate to reach out. If you are interested in volunteering, or would like to get in touch, please contact us at [email protected].
