CUASA Statement on Planned Provincial Walkout
CUASA Statement on Planned Provincial Walkout
March 19, 2019
We were happy to see the message from the Provost last week giving CUASA members the authorization to make academic accommodations for students participating in tomorrow’s planned provincial walkout to protest the Ontario’s governments OSAP and funding changes.
It has come to our attention that not all CUASA members received the Provost’s message, so we are including it here:
“The CUSA Executive has formally informed my office of their plans to participate in a Province-Wide Student Walk Out in protest to the Government of Ontario’s changes to post-secondary education.
The Walk Out is scheduled for March 20, 2019 from 12 to 1 p.m.
Students may be absent from classes during this time. While the Province-Wide Student Walk Out does not meet the requirements for the Accommodation of Days of Action policy, course instructors are asked to make academic accommodations where possible in order to ensure students are not adversely affected by their participation in this event. As in all cases of accommodation, students remain responsible for all academic obligations.”
We encourage CUASA members to please try to accommodate their students where possible, and allow them to participate if they wish. We also encourage you to participate, work schedules permitting.
The CUASA office has flags available if members would like to borrow one for the gathering in the quad outside of Patterson Hall.
