Afternoon Update – March 27
Thank you for your comments on the recent Formally Scheduled Examinations for April 2020 email sent by the Employer, and input shared by those of you who had to return and cut short your sabbatical. We shall refer these concerns to the employer at our next JCAA meeting, to be scheduled for the coming week.
We had a very informative and long discussion with OCUFA (the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations, to which we belong) and its legal team, Goldblatt Partners, on academic and related issues arising from the COVID-19 outbreak. For example, concerns regarding the onset of unusual, normally non-pressing family responsibilities at this time must be acknowledged by the Employer. Thus, an additional equity and gender-based problem arises and now needs to be addressed.
You’ve been informed of the closure of certain buildings in the near future and the conditions for entry onto the campus. The University’s new building access protocol can be found here.
As we’re approaching this last week of classes and the start of the examination period, it may be time to reflect on your year, try to relax, and take care of yourselves and your families. CUASA is here to represent you. Comments of every type are always welcome. Have a good weekend.
