CUASA Actively Monitoring COVID-19 Situation

Dear CUASA members,

Following the news of the first case of the coronavirus COVID-19 in the Ottawa region, we wish to inform our members that we are actively monitoring the situation.

As per the University’s directions, should any CUASA members need to self-quarantine or if any members are in a situation where they are not able to re-enter the country, we encourage you to contact your Chair/Director immediately.

The University has advised us that any CUASA members who are not ill, but are on a work accommodation related to a possible COVID-19 exposure, are encouraged to complete their work from home, where possible. Should such action be necessary, members should make arrangements with their Chair/Director.

Carleton also announced this morning that preparations are underway to ensure the continuity of academic operations in the event of a disruption. The situation is developing rapidly, and members are encouraged to monitor communications from the University and CUASA for any updates, including potential cancellations or closures.

We encourage all CUASA members to take normal precautions to reduce the spread of germs. Ottawa Public Health recommends the following:

• Wash your hands often with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth unless you have just washed your hands with soap
• Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue or into your arm, not your hand
• If possible, stay home if you are sick
• Avoid visiting people in hospitals or long-term care centres if you are sick
• It is still recommended to get your flu shot if you haven’t already as the flu virus is still circulating in the community
