Office Closed for Good Friday

Please note that the virtual CUASA Office will be closed tomorrow for the Good Friday statutory holiday. No services will be provided over the weekend. The virtual CUASA Office will resume operations on Monday, April 13.

Call for Interim Vice President

Update from Scheduling and Examination Services

We have heard back from Scheduling and Examination Services on some of the exam-related concerns that CUASA members raised.

With respect to students registered with the Paul Menton Centre, the same support is provided, but digitally instead of face-to-face. For exams that are taking place in cuLearn, the University will build in the alternate date(s) or extra time for PMC students. If there are any further concerns, SES will reach out to the course instructor involved. If CUASA members receive any questions from students regarding accommodations for exams, please direct them to the PMC at pmc@carleton.ca.

Regarding the conversion of exams to a system separate from cuLearn, we have been told that the content of the exams will not be altered when the exam is being migrated. All course instructors will receive a preview of their exams 72 hours before the exam for any final edits.

Note, we have heard concerns from members reporting students are saying they have internet issues and are worried about their online exams. We have raised those concerns again and await a response from the University.

SAS Software Concerns

We received word that some have had difficulties accessing SAS software from off campus. We have been informed from Carleton IT Services that the SAS software can now be offered to any faculty, staff and students, during the COVID-19 situation, through the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment. To access SAS software through VDI, faculty, staff and students can contact the ITS Service Desk. The agents can assist users who wish to access software through VDI.

Update from Parking Services

Parking Services has announced that given the COVID-19 crisis and the fact that faculty and staff are now working remotely, payroll deductions for parking will be suspended as of April 1, 2020. Due to the payroll process, this change could not be implemented in time for the April 14 pay. To compensate for this delay, Parking Services will defer the reinstatement of payroll deductions by a full pay period when campus reopens and we are able to return. Parking Services has assured that parking spaces will be maintained throughout this time.

Postdoctoral Positions at Carleton

We have heard some concerns from our colleagues in the Carleton University Postdoctoral Union – PSAC 77000 regarding delays in the start of postdoctoral contracts due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. Any CUASA members who are supposed to be supervising a postdoctoral fellow whose position will be delayed is asked to contact us at cuasa@cuasa.ca.
