In this issue:
On Friday, September 15th the CUASA and administration negotiating teams met for the fourth time and agreed to a set of bargaining protocols. The team is pleased to report that several achievements were negotiated in this round’s protocols:
- An observer seat for CUASA members at the negotiating table.
- A policy of more open external communication.
- Sidebars or in-camera sessions are prohibited.
The observer seat is being made available on a meeting-by-meeting basis for CUASA members who wish to observe the negotiation process. If you are interested in sitting in on a bargaining meeting between CUASA and the Employer, please write to the Member Services and Communications Officer . Observers will be selected by lottery and contacted directly. For more information about the observer seat, click here.
Once the protocols were signed, CUASA tabled a package of proposals centred on members’ workload. Across the university, members have consistently reported that their workload is increasing and is among the top priorities for this round of bargaining. Your negotiating team has put forward proposals that would lower the burden of administrative duties that eat into time better spent on research, teaching, and service; address disparities in Instructor workload; standardize teaching assistance provided to members; rein in the rising student/faculty ratio; better delineate your service duties; and ensure that work is equitably distributed within units. We want to ensure that you have the time and support necessary to succeed in all of the academic functions that make Carleton work!
The parties will meet again on September 29th.
General Members’ Meeting on Wednesday, October 11th from 4:00-7:30pm in DT 2017.
